The USB-powered DDJ-SB2 is more compact and portable than its pro-DJ stable mates, the DDJ-SX2 and DDJ-SZ, but offers the same intuitive layout, high-quality build, and many advanced features. Also new at this price point are four-deck control and the Pad Trans Pad beat effect, which cuts the volume in time with the BPM when the DJ hits the Performance Pads. Now the DDJ-SB2 adds pro-DJ features usually found on top-flight controllers, including a trim pot and level meters to control the volumes on each channel. So they’ve got a spare hand to unleash their creativity – using the tactile Performance Pads and buttons to trigger samples, FX, loops and cues. The controller’s innovative Filter Fade lets DJs mix seamlessly, adjusting the volume and bass filter with just one hand. The DDJ-SB is hugely popular with beginners and hobbyist DJs, thanks to its intuitive, plug-and-play control of Serato DJ Intro (free) and Serato DJ (Paid upgrade), which offers features including iZotope FX, Slip Mode, record and a host of expansion packs. The two-channel DDJ-SB2 boasts all the features of the original DDJ-SB – including Filter Fade, Performance Pads and advanced features not usually available at this price point – and adds a trim pot, level meters, the Pad Trans beat effect and 4-deck control. Has Serato made a canny move by offering what is effectively a credible basic version of its ITCH software? What effect do you think this will have on Traktor and Virtual DJ? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.10 th August 2015: Aspiring DJs now have uncompromised control, with the launch of the DDJ-SB2 entry-level controller for Serato DJ Intro and Serato DJ. It comes with basic effects, cueing, and a four-sample sampler built-in, the latter apparently complete with Virtual DJ style air horns and explosions.Īs with other Serato software, it is free to download, but only works when compatible hardware is plugged in.

We’ve yet to test Serato DJ Intro, but from the look if it, it is easy to use software with the main plus points of ITCH but without the complications of “pro” software.

The new software, announced today, is designed to be packaged with beginner DJ controllers, a market that Traktor LE, but especially Virtual DJ LE, currently cater for. And in a simultaneous announcement, Numark – the biggest manufacturer of DJ controllers in the world – has confirmed that it will now package Serato DJ Intro with its lower-end controllers, meaning its complete range – from the humble Mixtrack right up to the NS7FX – now comes with Serato software.Īs well as the Numark controller, Serato announced that the Vestax Typhoon and VCI-100 Mk II also work with the software, although it seems there’s no four-deck support for the latter controller this appears to be strictly a two-deck DJ solution.
